NYC Church Offers Friars’ Forum

NEW YORK — The Church of the Holy Name of Jesus on the Upper West Side of Manhattan is celebrating the 800th anniversary of the founding of the Franciscans with a “Friars’ Forum 2009-2010.”

The series comprises of 17 adult education classes, offered on Tuesday evenings from Oct. 27 to July 13. The forum invites people to deepen their faith by participating in the discussion. 

The following friars are speaking on topics such as Advent, St. Francis and suffering, and the sacraments: Gonzalo de Jesus Torres, OFM, Lawrence Ford, OFM, Brian Jordan, OFM, Cidouane Joseph, OFM, Daniel Kenna, OFM, pastor of Holy Name, Michael McDonnell, OFM, and Matthew Pravetz, OFM.

Each session of Friars’ Forum is held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in St. Mary of the Angels Chapel at 207 West 96th Street. The next session will feature Lawrence speaking on “Jesus as a Public Minister.”
