NEW YORK — In conjunction with its counseling center, St. Francis of Assisi Church here will offer a workshop this spring on the stresses and struggles of coping with aging parents.
“My Parents Are Older Now: A Workshop for Adult Children of Aging Parents,” will take place on four consecutive Wednesdays, beginning March 4, from 12:15 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., at the church on West 31st Street.
The workshop will explore what happens when children are confronted with the reality that parents are aging, and how they can prepare for emotional challenges with greater grace and resiliency.
The group that this workshop appeals to are both caregivers and adults coming to terms with the fact that their parents are getting older. Complicated family situations can also intensify during this time.
The workshop will explore a variety of topics:
- How to care for parents
- What are the limits of our responsibilities?
- What the role-reversal feels like
- How aging parents affect sibling relationships
- End-of-life decisions
- How to make this transitional stage a rich spiritual experience
The workshop costs $40. For information, call 212-736-8500, ext. 290.
