TUXEDO, N.Y. — A friar known for his many missions at parishes around the East Coast and one known for caring for the sick were among the people who participated in last month’s celebration at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Kevin Cronin, OFM, and Francis Soucy, OFM, attended the July 15 Mass and picnic at the Orange County parish. Their photo appeared in Catholic New York on July 26.
Kevin and Francis, director of Holy Name Community skilled nursing home in Ringwood, N.J., appear in a photo on page 28. Francis helps out at the parish on weekends.
Kevin, who, like Francis, lives in northern New Jersey, less than an hour’s drive from Tuxedo, conducted a mission at the parish in preparation for the feast of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, which is celebrated on July 16. “It was their first mission in over 20 years,” Kevin said, “and it got a wonderful response.” He presents dozens of missions and retreats each year.
Our Lady of Mount Carmel’s celebration of its patron saint included “plenty of good food and lively conversation inside, as well as games for the kids on the picturesque parish grounds,” according to the article in the newspaper of the Archdiocese of New York. Auxiliary Bishop Dominick J. Lagonegro, Episcopal vicar of Dutchess, Orange, Sullivan, Ulster and Northern Westchester/Putnam counties, celebrated the Mass.
