ROME — The first issue of Fraternitas for the new year reports on various celebrations of the 800th anniversary of the Order, which concluded in December. 

The Jan. 1 issue includes summaries of commemorations in Australia, Italy and France, as well as a report of a November study day in Poland on the four Franciscan Rules and recent happenings in the Central African Republic.

The monthly newsletter of the Order announced the next course for justice, peace and integrity of creation will be at the Pontifical Antonian University and reported on “The Inauguration of the Auditorium Antonianum.” The animation committee of the Order’s JPIC Office last met in Rome during October to exchange information about experiences and plan for the next six months, according to Fraternitas. They will meet again Feb. 21 to 27 in Bolivia.

This month, General Minister Fr. José Rodríguez Carballo, OFM, traveled to Croatia to visit the Province of Sts. Cyril and Methodius.

The Order’s Web site mentions a recent talk given by Pope Benedict on the positive contributions of the Franciscans and Dominicans to the Church. The blog “Whispers in the Loggia” includes information about the talk.
