ROME — The cover of the February issue of Fraternitas focuses on the newly-beatified members of the Franciscan community and continuing aid in Haiti.

General Minister Fr. José Rodríguez Carballo, OFM, appealed to all friars of the Order to help victims of the January earthquake, especially the friars of Haiti, financially with “unlimited generosity.” 

Other news in the Order’s monthly e-publication included:

• A recap of the celebration of the 60th anniversary of priestly ordination for Fr. Bonaventure Duda, OFM. Fr. Bonaventure is famous in Croatia for his active contribution in promoting Croatian culture and theology. 

• The opening of the first OFM friary in Khartoum, Sudan. Previously, five friars, three native to Sudan, were living “in a poor dwelling on the outskirts, on loan by the local bishop.” Fraternitas reported that Fr. José will visit the Foundation of Sudan later this month.

In addition to his visit to Sudan, Fr. José will also travel to Istanbul, Turkey, and Montilla, Spain, in February.
