WASHINGTON — Franciscan Mission Service – the more than 25-year-old program that serves both overseas and in the United States – is accepting inquiries and resumes for an executive director. The organization is conducting a national search for a staff person, following the departure this fall of Kim Smolik, who had led the mission service since 2009.
The executive director will provide day-to-day leadership and management, focusing on the implementation of established FMS vision and goals in support of the program priorities. These include recruiting, training, monitoring and supporting overseas lay missioners in service throughout the world, and fostering an ongoing relationship with returned missioners in the needs of the Church and wider society within the United States. Qualification requirements include a bachelor’s degree, five or more years’ experience and demonstrated understanding of the Franciscan charism.
Those interested in the position, located in the nation’s capital near The Catholic University of America, should send a letter and resume to HR@benefactorgorup.com. A profile of the position can be found on Benefactor Group’s website.
Though FMS has set no deadline for submitting résumés, Fr. Thomas Washburn, OFM, chair of the FMS Board of Directors, encourages non-profit professionals to inquire about this dynamic and rewarding position.
Information about FMS can be found on the organization’s recently redesigned website. Its blog is one of the main Franciscan Mission Service ministries, according to a recent email distributed by FMS. “We invite you to visit the redesigned blog section, which features images and reflections from our program participants both at home and abroad.”
The website offers visitors information about a variety of topics including:
- The San Damiano Servant Leadership award
- The legacy of FMS founder Fr. Anselm Moons, OFM, who died in November
- Advent reflections
