ANTWERP, Belgium — Marie Dennis, who is well known to many in our Province, became the first lay co-president of Pax Christi International last week. This nomination is a breakthrough for Pax Christi, which heretofore has had bishop presidents exclusively.
Now, a lay person, a woman and an American at that, is co-equal with the new bishop president of this international Catholic peace movement.
Marie and Archbishop Laurent Monsengwo were elected the new presidents at the annual general assembly on April 28 here. Their three-year terms as co-presidents begin at the Triennial World Assembly of Pax Christi International, from October 30 to November 4 in Torhout/Bruges
Marie is a founding member of our Assisi community in Washington and a Secular Franciscan.
