Margate, N.J. – The stained glass window depicting St. Francis’s “Canticle of the Sun” has added to our tiny chapel’s simple beauty and prayerful atmosphere. On Jan. 11, John O’Connor, accompanied by the Provincial Council, solemnly blessed and dedicated the window.
Bernard Splawski assisted the Provincial. Boniface Hanley and “Brother Joe the Beagle” added their humble prayers.
Brian Cullinane, pastor of Our Lady of the Assumption Parish in Wood-Ridge, N.J., designed and created the work of art during the early part of 2005 and installed it last May.
Parochial duties kept Brian from the ceremonies. Ironically, during his creative labors on the window, Brian suffered severely painful knee arthritis. Some months after installing the window, he underwent successful surgery that eliminated the knee pain.
The Margate Friary’s Christmas card featured the window and the Canticle passages. Recipients have praised the card; some have framed it.
