Manhattan’s St. Francis Church Seeks Liturgical Ministers

NEW YORK – St. Francis of Assisi Church on West 31st Street here is looking for liturgical ministers. 

A three-week training program is being offered to those interested in serving as a lector, Eucharistic minister, server or minister of hospitality.

Parish Director of Volunteer Ministry Edward Tochimczuk, said, “If you feel called to minister, consider entering our Liturgical Ministry Formation program in 2008. Participation in this training will fully prepare you to serve at St. Francis Church. Classes will be held on three consecutive Wednesdays: Jan. 9, 16 and 23.

Visitors to the parish office at St. Francis House at 135 West 31st Street will find a 2008 calendar, in both English and Spanish, as well as the catalog of winter and spring adult education courses and other activities. The church offers 24 courses this semester, according to Kevin Tortorelli, OFM, director of Adult Education.

“The courses cover a wide range of topics, from spirituality to church history, and Franciscan and Catholic social teaching and scripture,” Kevin said. Church Latin courses continue to be popular, he added.
