NEW YORK, N.Y. —  A “longest night,” memorial service in lower Manhattan, the annual memorial to honor the lives of homeless New Yorkers who passed away in the past year and call for justice in their name in lower Manhattan is being supported by the Province’s  JPIC office.

The name “longest night” refers to the Dec. 21 winter solstice, the longest night of the year.

Russell Testa, director of HNP’s Office for Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation, is encouraging friars and other interested individuals to attend the event on Dec. 21 at Judson Memorial Church on Washington Square South.

The event, organized by Picture the Homeless, will include representatives from the Franciscan family of New York City and several other NYC faith communities.

Two Holy Name Province friars will be offering prayers at the service: Michael Tyson and Michael Harlan.
