Kevin Cronin was invited to participate in the Telecare Telethon on Jan. 15.
“I was on a panel with Bishop Murphy, the Ordinary of Rockville Centre, Monsignor Brennan, the Chancellor, and Father Jim Vlaun, the CEO of Telecare,” said Kevin. “We read pledges from people and joked around. It was a really neat and fun experience, and a privilege to be part of.” Kevin has given over 70 missions on Long Island.
“A former affiliate, now a priest in the diocese, Father Vinny Schifano, of St. Patrick’s, Huntington, pledged $100 when I was answering the phones, and asked that I read his pledge,” Kevin continued. “The Bishop also asked me if I had a niece at Our Lady of Mercy Academy in Syosset, whom he recently met. I also heard a pledge come in memory of Tom Vigliotta‘s uncle, Father William, SMM, from the Vigliotta family.”
The Telethon exceeded its goal from last year, which was $309,000, by raising $312,000 this year.
Kevin gave Telecare’s first televised Advent Retreat this past December and is hoping to be invited back for Lent.
Telecare is the largest diocesan-run TV channel in the country. It is on 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They boast that their entire budget equals less than one episode of Seinfeld. Their programs may be watched live at www.telecaretv.org.
