Peacemaking

Peacemaking

Following in the footsteps of St. Francis of Assisi, Holy Name Province ministries incarnate his commitment to peace through a wide range of activities. Take a look at the educational and formative programs, advocacy efforts and direct service work going on in our local communities. Think about starting a similar effort in your community, or consider new ways our ministries might be “Peace Made Flesh” in our world.

To add to the list, contact Fran Eskin-Royer in Holy Name Province’s Office for Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation.

“TENT OF NATIONS” MIDDLE EAST PEACE PRESENTATIONS

A Palestinian Christian farmer from the Holy Land visited five Province ministries from April 17 to May 4, 2010 during an East Coast speaking tour, sharing his story about “Planting Peace — Teaching Hope.”   Daoud Nassar, whose family works a 100-acre farm and olive grove near Bethlehem, runs the nearby Tent of Nations' peace education center. Information about the organization and updates about the farm may be found at Friends of Tent of Nations North America.

ENGAGE PEACEMAKING (INSTRUMENTS OF PEACE) PROGRAM

The Engage Peacemaking Program is a 10-week small group formation and training process in active nonviolence. The program approaches nonviolence at the personal, interpersonal and social realms of individual and community life so that those completing the process can be more fully equipped to bring the Gospel message of peace to our world. The Engage Peacemaking Program has been utilized in a number of HNP ministries in an effort to live out the Franciscan commitment to peacemaking.
