NEW YORK — Joseph Cavoto, OFM, made his solemn profession to observe the Rule of St. Francis according to the Constitutions of the Order of Friars Minor on March 19 in a ceremony during evening prayer in the chapel of St. Francis Friary on West 31st Street. Provincial Minister John O’Connor, OFM, received Joseph’s profession on the feast of St. Joseph.
This marks the end of a two-year process through which Joe transferred from the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement to the Friars Minor. The Connecticut native had lived as a Franciscan, following the Rule of the Third Order Regular, until April 2012, when he was received into the Order of Friars Minor. He is a staff member of St. Francis Counseling Center on West 31st Street in New York City.
In 2006, Michael Blastic, OFM, transferred to the Province, coming from the Conventual Franciscan Order.
Three candidates for solemn profession were approved by the Provincial Council during the March meeting. The friars — Ross Chamberland, OFM, Jeffery Jordan, OFM, and Michael Reyes, OFM — will be professed at a Mass on Aug. 23 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, New York City.
