Jocelyn Thomas Around the Province

Two ministries affiliated with Holy Name Province are seeking staff members: a parish in New Jersey and the Franciscan Mission Service.

St. Mary’s Parish, in Pompton Lakes, N.J., is seeking a full-time director of youth ministry, comprising grades 6 through 12. The ideal candidate will be rooted in the Catholic faith and will possess a progressive, modern mindset toward youth and their families. This position is integral to the life of the entire parish community and requires positive energy, leadership, managerial and supervision skills, collaboration with the entire pastoral staff, and an ability to inspire confidence in our youth and their families. The director will report to pastor Frank Sevola, OFM.

The position requires a bachelor’s degree and three years of youth ministry experience or five years of pastoral ministry experience or non-profit management. Resumes should be sent to the parish’s search committee at ymsearch@stmarys-pompton.org.

In Washington, the Franciscan Mission Service has several open positions. The 25-year old mission service is seeking a full-time staff member to provide steady and mature leadership to FMS’s “robust collection” of programs in the U.S. and abroad, according to the ministry’s website.

The job’s responsibilities include recruiting candidates for FMS programs, coordinating liturgies and retreats, and leading short-term mission and Global Awareness Trips.

“We are in need of a program manager to share his or her own mission and cross-cultural experiences to shape the next generation of servant leaders and facilitate life-changing ministries,” said Bridget Higginbothom, FMS communications manager.

The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to build and execute strong programs, with particular attention to leveraging the support of a wide range of stakeholders and budget management, according to the job description. “He or she will be committed to intentionally forming and supporting program participants. This position is an excellent opportunity for someone to share their own mission and cross-cultural experiences to shape the next generation of servant leaders and facilitate life-changing ministries.”

Also needed are house managers for Casa San Salvador, a building that houses FMS’s community as well as missioners-in-training. FMS is seeking a married couple to serve as the house managers and live with the residents and guests. Information about the positions can be found on the FMS website.

Those interested in applying for an FMS positon should email a letter and resume to Kim Smolik, executive director.
