NEW YORK — Friars from Immaculate Conception Province converged last month at their mother church — St. Anthony of Padua here — to commemorate the establishment of the province 100 years ago.
Joining in the celebration were Holy Name friars Provincial Minister John O’Connor, OFM, Provincial Vicar Dominic Monti, OFM, Brian Jordan, OFM,Francis Kim, OFM, and Jerome Massimino, OFM. New York Archbishop Timothy Dolan also attended part of the celebration.
First established as the Custody of the Immaculate Conception in 1861, the band of brothers was raised to the status of a province on Dec. 25, 1910.
The June 23 celebration included Mass presided over by General Minister Fr. Jose Rodriguez Carballo, OFM. Fr. Romano Almagno, OFM, preached the homily.
Following the solemn Mass, friars gathered for a festive dinner.
