NEW YORK — Fr. Larry Dunham, OFM, former Provincial Minister of Our Lady of Guadalupe Province in New Mexico and ex-president of the English-speaking Conference, was named General Visitor and president of the Immaculate Conception (IC) Province’s 2010 chapter. Like Holy Name Province, IC is based here.

Fr. Larry’s appointment was announced earlier this month by IC Provincial Minister Fr. Robert Campagna, OFM.

Fr. Larry, 61, grew up in many places as the son of a military father. He joinedSt. John the Baptist Province’s minor seminary of St. Francis in Cincinnati and professed first vows in 1967. He was ordained in 1974.

“In my 35 years ordained, I was privileged to have been involved in vocation work, parochial ministry, Native American apostolate, social work, military chaplain and provincial leadership,” he said in IC’s Oct. 16 e-newsletter.

The schedule of visitation is still being planned for the Sept. 20 to 24 chapter, according to the e-letter. The role of the general visitor is to interview all friars about fraternal life, ministry, accomplishments, challenges and any issues that might need attention. He attends all provincial council meetings, oversees nominations and presides at the chapter. At the end of the chapter, the visitor writes a report on the state of the province.

In other IC news, the e-letter reported that Fr. Robert visited the friars in Central America this month.

While there, he participated in two celebrations for the 90th birthday of Fr. Rocco Famiglietti, OFM, in Guatemala at the Valley of the Angels.

Fr. Robert reported: “Because of the political situation in Honduras, I was unable to visit that country. However, I did visit the friars in Salvador and Guatemala.”
