Holy Name College Friars Visit St. Francis Springs for Retreat

Larry Anderson Around the Province

SILVER SPRING , Md. — The friar community of Holy Name College traveled to St. Francis Springs Prayer Center in Stoneville, N.C., on May 14 for its annual end-of-the-year retreat. The 19 participants were fortunate to have our brother Joseph Nangle as leader of the gathering.

Joe based his talks on Micah 6:8: “This is what the Lord asks of you: To act justly, love tenderly and walk humbly with your God”. Extrapolating from his extensive experience of working for social change during his time in South America and Washington D.C., Joe spoke of the need to be grounded in Catholic social thought in our lives as friars minor.

St. Francis Springs provided a perfect setting for the retreat. Louis Canino and his band of volunteers could not have been more hospitable; the food and accommodations were magnificent. While this was the community’s first time at the Prayer Center, I would venture to guess that it will not be the last.

After the retreat, we traveled to Raleigh, N.C., for the ordination to the priesthood of George Corrigan andEmerson Rodriguez Delgado.  The participants then set off for their summer assignments, a selection of which is listed below.
