HNP Welcomes New Candidates

Ron Pecci In the Headlines

Three candidates for the postulant program moved into Holy Cross Friary in the Bronx, N.Y., on July 6 to begin their Franciscan formation.

They are Peter Viccione of Providence, R.I., Antonio Cornier of Miami, Fla., and Luis Nuñez of the Bronx. The three begin their formation under Ronald Pecci and William Herbst, the new pre-novitiate directors. After an initial orientation, the candidates will take classes specially prepared for them.

During their first week in the Bronx, they will study the life of St. Francis under the direction of Ron Pecci. They will then travel to Holy Name College the following week to receive an overview of Sacred Scripture by James Scullion. The next week, they will study liturgy and music, taught by Jim Sabak and Kevin McGoff, and then Catholic social teachings with Jud Weiksnar. The classes will conclude with a week of Church history and the history of Holy Name Province, taught by Dominic Monti.

The candidates will then travel to Mt. Irenaeus for retreat. They will return to the Bronx in late August, when they will be formally received into the postulancy program of Holy Name Province.
