Flavian Walsh asks if it was simply a coincidence? At the running of the Preakness this past Saturday, the favored horse, Barbaro, the winner of the Kentucky Derby, suffered a major injury and was unable to complete the race. The winner was Bernardini, whose victory came on the feast of St. Bernardine of Siena.

At the Siena Board of Trustees meeting the day before the race, Kevin Mackin had suggested people place their bets on the horse bearing the name of the school’s patron saint. Folks would have done well to follow Kevin’s intuition.
