EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — The Province’s Franciscan Missonary Union (FMU) and St. Anthony’s Guild have produced a devotional booklet  —  a guide to the Stations of the Cross. It was mailed recently to members of the Guild and the FMU.

The pocket-sized Way of the Cross includes scripture readings, words of St. Francis of Assisi , liturgical prayers, and brief meditations by Russell Becker, OFM, director of the FMU. Photographs were taken by Octavio Duran, OFM, at the Cathedral of St. Peter in Scranton, Pa.

According to the Easter 2008 letter that accompanied the mailed booklet, it provides “the ultimate preparation for the joy of the Risen Christ.” The Way of the Cross was a gift from  “all the friars to inspire your faith this Easter,” said John Piccione, OFM, Guild director, in his letter.

“It is meant to be a guide to people’s prayer either alone or with a group,” Russell said, adding that each station includes a verse from the traditional hymn “Stabat Mater.”

The booklet will soon be available on Holy Name’s Web site.
