ROME — José Rodríguez Carballo, OFM, General Minister of the Order of Friars Minor, issued an appeal for Myanmar, asking for prayers and financial help for victims of Cylone Nargis.
In his May 8 letter, José said the storm is the “greatest tragedy to strike Asia since 1991, when 143,000 people died in Bangladesh.”
He continued: “At times like this, we should not forget that it is in giving that we receive, and that there is more joy in giving than in receiving. Let us be generous to the very many people in need. May the Lord bless those who give with generous hearts.”
It is estimated that more than 78,000 people were killed by the May 3 storm.
