ROME — The recent meeting of the OFM cardinals and bishops, India’s large number of novices and the General Minister’s meeting with the English-speaking Conference are featured in the October issue of Fraternitas. The monthly publication of the Order of Friars Minor reports that Fr. Jose Rodriguez Carballo, OFM, is meeting with the English-Speaking Conference on Oct. 10 to 14 in London at which Holy Name’s Provincial Minister John O’Connor, OFM, is participating.
Fr. Jose has a busy month, meeting with the Union of Friars Minor of Europe in Portugal Oct. 18 to 19, and participating in the 25th anniversary of the Spirit of Assisi in Italy on Oct. 27.
In late September, the General Minister met with the Definitory of OFM Friars belonging to the College of Bishops in both Assisi and Rome, a meeting that included six cardinals and 107 archbishops and bishops.
Fraternitas also reported that India’s Province of St. Thomas the Apostle has welcomed 21 novices. “This year, they have 119 friars in various stages of formation from all over the country and belonging to the province, the dependent custody in northern India, and the foundation in the north east of India,” the newsletter reported.
The pope also appointed Fr. Damian Muskus Andrzej of the Province of the Immaculate Conception of the BVM in Poland as the Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Krakow.
The newsletter reported on new provincial ministers throughout the world:
- Fr. Michael Copps, OFM, of Immaculate Conception of the BVM Province in Great Britain, who was re-elected this summer
- Fr. Eduardo Lopez Ramirez, OFM, of the Province of Saints Peter and Paul of Michoacan in Mexico
- Fr. Aurelio Pessoa Ribera, OFM, of the Missionary Province of St. Anthony in Bolivia
