ROME — The May issue of Fraternitas, the monthly publication of the Order of Friars Minor, announced the next Chapter of Mats for friars solemnly professed under 10 years. It will be held June 2 to 10, 2012, in Mexico. The theme of the gathering will be “Our Identity as Friars Minor.”
This is the fourth such chapter. The most recent, held in 2007 in the Holy Land, was attended by two Holy Name Province friars — James Sabak, OFM, and Gonzalo Torres-Acosta, OFM.
The recent newsletter also announced the opening of the VIII centenary of the founding of the Order of Poor Clares and described several meetings in which the General Minister participated.
Also included in this month’s Fraternitas were:
· May schedule of the General Minister Fr. Jose Rodriguez Carballo, OFM
· Descriptions of three books
· Last month’s day of study commemorating 40 years of activities of the Institute of Franciscan Spirituality
· A course, offered Aug. 29 to Sept. 23, on Italian language and culture
