Jocelyn Thomas Franciscan World

ROME — Last week, Pope Benedict XVI met with Cardinal Angelo Amato, prefect of the Congregation for the Cause of Saints. At the hearing, the Holy Father authorized the congregation to promulgate several decrees regarding the causes promoted by the OFM postulation.

This news, along with stories about the pope’s visit to La Verna, Italy, an announcement of the new president of Franciscans International, and an update on the membership statistics of the Order of Friars Minor, are the top features of the June issue of Fraternitas.

The monthly publication of the Order also announces the new executive committee of the Secretaries for Missionary Evangelization (SGME), comprised of seven friars, including Thomas Cole, OFM, of Holy Name Province.

The current newsletter also reports on:

  • The June schedule of General Minister Fr. Jose Rodriguez Carballo, OFM, including his participation in the Chapter of Mats of the Friars Under Ten in Guadalajara, Mexico; the celebration of the feast of St. Anthony in Italy; and visits to the provinces in Poland and Spain
  • The May 15 to 18 meeting of the General Definitorium with the presidents of the OFM conferences
  • A Gregorian chant course at Assisi Portiuncula in July
  • Five new books with Franciscan themes

Information about the Order is provided in three languages on its website where links to the blog and the Facebook page of the Order of Friars Minor can be found.
