General Curia’s February Update

Jocelyn Thomas Franciscan World

ROME — A new hotel, gatherings in Brazil and Rome, an exhibition on St. Bernadine of Siena, and the Order’s website are featured in this month’s issue of the Order’s newsletter.

The February 2013 issue of Fraternitas announced last fall’s opening of the Canticle Hotel, a 71-room facility in Rome owned by the Order of Friars Minor through the Antonian Works Foundation. The hotel opened in October, on the feast of St. Francis, and has been accepting reservations from many organizations.

The publication also features the Jan. 15 to 16 Conference on the Year of Faith: A Contribution to its Celebration, held at the Pontifical Antonianum University, as well as the Second Franciscan Missionary Congress of Latin America and the Caribbean, scheduled for April in Caninde, Brazil.

A traveling exhibit about St. Bernardine of Siena, who lived from 1380 to 1444, is also publicized in this issue. It is a lightweight 20-panel exhibit that can be shipped for display.

The monthly newsletter, which can be found on the home page of the Order’s website, also provided information about
• The schedule of General Minister Fr. Jose Rodriguez Carballo, OFM, which includes participation in the Unio Fratrum Minorum Europae council later this week
• January meeting of the newly-elected provincial minsters
• Re-election of the general minster of the Conventuals
• An historic hailstorm in the Holy Land

Among the topics offered on the Order of Friars site, is the Feb. 2 letter from Fr. Jose, that was distributed to the friars on the Day of Consecrated Life.
