WASHINGTON — Holy Name Province friars and staff members were among the crowd last month at the annual March for Life.
Jud Weiksnar, OFM, of Camden, N.J., Jacek Orzechowski, OFM, of Silver Spring, Md., and Russell Testa, director of the HNP Office of Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation, attended the March for Life on Jan. 22 along with parishioners from St. Camillus Church in Silver Spring, St. Anthony of Padua in Camden and St. Francis of Assisi in Triangle, Va. Ignatius Smith, OFM, pastor ofHoly Cross Church in Callicoon, N.Y., and Peter Schneible, OFM, of St. Bonaventure University were also there with groups from Sullivan County, N.Y., and St. Bonaventure, Jud said.
There was a gathering of Franciscans at the event, according to Fran Eskin-Royer of the JPIC Office, adding that members of the Franciscan Action Network“were part of the mix.” Charles Miller, OFM, pastor of St. Francis Church in Triangle, was also present, as was Michael Duffy, OFM, of Philadelphia, Jud said.
The event, held annually on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., protests the 1973 Roe vs. Wade Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion in the United States.
Deacon Br. Fadi Azar, OFM, an intern at the Camden parish, also participated.
