HNP Communications Around the Province

• Christopher Coccia, Cornelius Conti, Leonard Lencewicz and Valerian Vaverchak celebrated their golden jubilee of profession of vows on May 1 at St. Anthony’s Friary in St. Petersburg, Fla. Joining them in the celebration were Sr. Germaine Bevins, OSB, Vicar for Religious of the St. Petersburg Diocese, friars from Sacred Heart Friary in Tampa including visiting guest Hugh Hines; some Allegany Franciscan Sisters; Secular Franciscans; and various friends of the jubilarians.

Cornelius was the presider and Christopher the deacon and homilist at the Eucharistic Liturgy marking the combined 200 years of Franciscan service the four friars have provided in behalf of the Order and the Province. The 10 a.m. Mass was followed by a  preprandium, dinner and postprandials. Michael Madden and Richard Jamesdecorated the recreation and dining rooms for the occasion.

• Brennan Connelly represented Holy Cross Church, the Bronx, at an annual men’s retreat at Passionist Life Center in Riverdale, N.Y., last month. Approximately 12 parishioners participated in the April 20 to 22 event.
•Thomas Kelly is organizing a weekend retreat for separated and divorced Catholics. It will be held May 18 to 20 in Newton, N.J.
• Last week, Dominic Monti participated in a board meeting of the American Academy of Franciscan History Board in Berkeley, Calif.
• John O’Connor met on April 25 with the Poor Clare superiors in Mantoloking, N.J.  On May 3, he participated in a meeting of the Washington Theological Union board of trustees.
• Jacek Orzechowski of Durham, N.C., participated this week in a conference in Washington, D.C., for churches for Peace in the Middle East. The event, titled “For the Peace of Jerusalem” was held May 6 to 8.
• Daniel Sulmasy will speak on May 19 at a Stem Cell Research Leadership Training at the Carondelet Hospitality Center in Latham, N.Y.
