Brian Jordan appears in a story in today’s The New York Times in which he protests the moving of a cross from the site of the World Trade Center to a hanger at Kennedy airport.

According to the article, the “cross-shaped beam” must be moved to permit construction, and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey had proposed to move it temporarily to the airport.

Brian has celebrated Mass many times near this cross, including midnight Christmas Mass every year starting in 2001.

The article said that Brian objected both to the proposal to move the cross and its timing, coming a week before Easter. Specifically, he objected to removing the cross from where it could be viewed by families of those killed at the site and recovery workers there.

The article mentions a possible compromise that would move the cross to St. Peter’s Church, one block away from the trade center site.
