ROME — The May issue of Fraternitas, the monthly publication from the Order of Friars Minor, provides readers with data regarding the Order.

Some of the interesting tidbits include these friar facts –

  • As of Dec. 31, there were 15,256 Friars Minor – 340 less than the previous year.
  • At that time, the Order had  619 postulants and 435 novices.
  • OFMs are distributed in 107 countries in the following geographic areas:  Africa and the Middle East, Latin America, North America, Europe, and Asia-Oceana.
  • The universal fraternity contains 104 provinces, six autonomous custodies, 12 dependent custodies, one federation, and 20 foundations.
