Franciscans Celebrate Eighth Centenary of St. Elizabeth of Hungary

To commemorate the eighth centenary of the birth of St. Elizabeth of Hungary and Thuringia, patroness of the Secular Franciscan Order, the Inter-Franciscan Commission that is based at the General Curia of the Third Order Regular in Rome is sponsoring a special program of activities during the next year.

The major liturgical celebration opening the anniversary year will be a solemn Eucharist on Nov. 17 at the Basilica of Sts. Cosmas and Damian in Rome with Cardinal Peter Erdö of Hungary presiding and the general ministers concelebrating. Concluding the year will be a prayer vigil at the Portiuncula in Assisi on Nov. 16, 2007, and a solemn Eucharist in the Basilica of St. Francis on the following day.

There will also be a special “day of study” at the Antonianum in Rome on February 23, 2007. The next day will begin a presentation of iconography featuring St. Elizabeth of Hungary that will last throughout the month of March. More information can be obtained by using the link below.
