Franciscan Volunteer Ministry Seeks Promoter

HNP Communications Around the Province

PHILADELPHIA — Holy Name’s Franciscan Volunteer Ministry (FVM), the thriving nearly 20-year-old program, has an opening for a new full-time FVM promoter.

The new hire will enhance the publicity and promotion of the FVM program, working with the FVM program director on public relations to augment volunteer recruitment. Making the program known to prospective volunteers and nurturing the volunteers will be handled by both the program director and the new promoter.

Interviewing Candidates this Summer

Because the ministry is a solid program, it deserves stronger publicity, according to Michael Duffy, OFM, who, with a search committee, will interview candidates this summer. He said the committee plans to have a person hired for September.

The FVM was incorporated in 1989. According to its Web site, its purpose is to provide a setting for lay volunteers to grow in faith, love and hope by serving the poor and marginalized, and working for social justice through Franciscan ministries. The volunteers live in Gospel-based communities as a witness to their faith through prayer and a simple lifestyle. Gifts and talents are exchanged with the people of God with a loving and joyful Franciscan spirit, always being aware of how much we can learn from and are blessed by the poor and marginalized of the world. The FVM has volunteers in Wilmington, Del., and Philadelphia.

Michael is seeking someone who can build strong connections at colleges and universities, raise awareness among HNP friars about helping to recruit volunteer candidates, create publicity for FVM through Web site updates  and printed materials, and provide monthly reports on activities to the board and program director.

Candidates need to have an outgoing style with demonstrated commitment to Franciscan values, a bachelor’s degree, ability to travel, computer competency, and strong writing and speaking skills.
