OAKLAND, Calif. — Brother Keith Douglass Warner, OFM, of St. Barbara Province, along with co-authors Sister Ilia Delio, OSF, and Pam Wood received two awards from the 2009 Catholic Press Association convention in Anaheim, Calif., for their book Care for Creation: A Franciscan Spirituality of the Earth.

The book, published by St. Anthony Messenger Press, a ministry of Province of St. John the Baptist, won first place for social concerns and second place for spirituality, soft cover at the May 2009 convention. The awards were reported in the September/October issue of WestFriars, the newsletter of St. Barbara Province.

The publication also included an introduction to the 2009-2010 novitiate class. The three novices, Brothers Michael Minton, Phillip Polk and Ryan Thornton range in age from 25 to 46.

The July/August issue of WestFriars included a final letter from Father Finian McGinn, OFM, who recently concluded his six-year term as General Definitor for the Order.

Fr. Finian discussed his feelings about returning to California after being away from “a province that certainly has gone through many changes … and I have not been part of the changes.” He closed his letter by thanking his fellow friars for reading his bi-monthly letters and saying he would see them soon.

The July-August issue of The Way, a magazine produced by St. Barbara Province, included articles about Sts. Clare and Bonvaventure, as well as “A Call to Franciscan Hearts” and several photos of the English-speaking Conference of the General Chapter.
