WASHINGTON — The Franciscan Action Network has been proud and privileged to combine its passion for social justice with its faith. The organization has been successful in bringing a Franciscan voice to the national conversation about the moral values of our country.
On Nov. 5, FAN will host its second annual Theodore Cardinal McCarrick Award Celebration at St. Francis Hall on Quincy Street in Washington. Each year, FAN honors a person who demonstrates to us what it means to have a Franciscan heart. The award was named after Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, an affiliate of Holy Name Province, who served as archbishop of Washington until 2006.
The cardinal will be on hand to help honor this year’s recipient, Rev. Fletcher Harper, executive director of GreenFaith. Harper is also a leader of the interfaith environmental campaign, OurVoices, and supportive of the Global Catholic Climate Movement. Harper has provided invaluable service and leadership to the environmental movement. The FAN team has been proud to partner with him and call him a friend.
Last year’s award event, where FAN honored Eliseo Medina for his work on the Fast4Families campaign, was a great success. Here are some photos of the evening. Medina has worked hard throughout his career to bring justice to immigrants and their families.
FAN invites friars and laypeople to support its mission of emboldening the Franciscan family and to thank Harper for his faith-based justice work by becoming a sponsor of this year’s award celebration. With your tax-deductible sponsorship donation, you will not only help us honor Harper — you will ensure that FAN continues its work for justice.
Tickets are available by registering online for a suggested donation of $100. Please note that you can use the online form only to pay online; the online system does not allow a registration to go through without payment.
Those who prefer to pay by check are asked to mail payment with this form ($100/suggested donation/per person) to:

Looking ahead to 2016, FAN is planning to collaborate on an event in New Hampshire to bring to the presidential candidate race a discussion of how money influences politics. FAN continue to advocate for immigration reform by visiting Capitol Hill and lobbying for reform. FAN will be represented at the United Nations Climate Summit in Paris at the end of the year and will continue to bring into discussions on climate the message of “Laudato Si” and the poor and marginalized.
