The friars of the Province are mourning the deaths of four friars’ relatives and a Secular Franciscan.
Gertrude Blauvelt, 88, a member of the Secular Franciscan Order and an active parishioner of two New Jersey parishes — St. Anthony in Butler and St. Mary in Pompton Lakes — died on July 9.
Marie Timoney, cousin of Jack Kull, OFM, died in Ireland on July 17.
Eugenia Valente, 93, mother of Basil Valente, OFM, died on July 30 in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Aug. 7 at Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Ballston Spa, N.Y.
Sr. Monica Murphy, CSJ, 77, of Albany, a cousin of Emmet Murphy, OFM, was killed in an auto accident on August 5 in the Adirondacks in New York.
Cecilia Tyszczenko, 60, sister of Provincial Secretary Michael Harlan, OFM, died on Aug. 7 in Chestnut Ridge, N.Y. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Aug. 12.
