Dan Sulmasy spoke on “The Ethics of Physician Participation in Military Interrogations” at the military medical school in Bethesda, Md., on Feb. 23.
Dan was the Alpha Omega Alpha Distinguished Lecturer at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences. The Pentagon sent the Surgeon General of the U.S. Army, Gen. Kevin Kiley, to attend the presentation.
Dan avoided questions about what might have taken place in Afghanistan, Iraq, or Guantanamo Bay, and concentrated on the application of principles to very specific kinds of activities before, during, and after interrogations. “The discussion was at times tense, always civil, and regarded as highly constructive by all who attended,” Dan said.
