CHICAGO. — Holy Name Province joined other JPIC animators from the OFM Franciscans in the United States for their bi-annual meeting here May 1 to 3.
At the gathering, participants elected new leadership for the ESC-JPIC Council and finalized an advocacy project to support comprehensive immigration reform. Other discussion topics included :
- Progress on the effort to develop a national Franciscan family effort in advocacy
- A plan to encourage all Franciscans to pray and fast for peace in Iraq and the world
- Sharing of efforts to animate JPIC programs
The ESC-JPIC Council is an arm of the OFM English-Speaking Conference whose purpose is to increase the quality and quantity of coordinated Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation activity in the OFM Franciscan movement.
The main areas of focus of Holy Name’s JPIC office are:
- Peacemaking
- Twinning
- Community Investing
In addition to the OFM Province JPIC animators attending, representatives of the Capuchin and Conventual Franciscans participated in last week’s meeting.
