ATHENS, Ga. — The University of Georgia is seeking a coordinator of its Catholic Student Association to assist the director of campus ministry in supporting and advancing the academic, spiritual and vocational goals of students, faculty and staff.
The staff member will help the director lead the ministry and pastoral programs within the context of a Franciscan ministry community supporting higher education. Responsibilities will include coordinating retreats, liturgical services and faith formation programs, as well as participating in community and university events and celebrations.
The position is full-time and salaried, according to a job description provided by the UGA Catholic Center, where Franciscans have served for 60 years. Applicants should hold a master’s degree in theology or divinity and possess an understanding of Franciscan values.

The friars of Holy Name Province have been part of the University of Georgia community since 1957. Cronan Kelly, OFM, began serving as chaplain of the Newman Club of the University of Georgia and later, when the Franciscans were invited to assume care of the Newman Club of the Catholic Center of University of Georgia, according to the center’s website. Ten years later, in February 1967, the Newman Center and Spalding Chapel were dedicated which, according to the website, showed the commitment of the Franciscan friars to the Catholic Center at the University of Georgia.”
