BRANT BEACH, N.J. — Nearly 60 people gathered last month at St. Francis parish center on Long Beach Island to watch Al Gore’s movie An Inconvenient Truth. The format – titled “Dinner and a Movie” – is used at the parish to combine the social aspects of a meal together with the opportunity to view a film that lends itself to discussion on a contemporary issue.
The widely-acclaimed film about global warming contained some startling statistics and provided ample fodder for discussion, said Sr. Pat Klemm, OSF who organized the program. The DVD was obtained through the Interfaith Power and Light campaign as recommended by the province’s JPIC (Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation) office.
St. Francis is in the process of trying to obtain clearance for the construction of a wind turbine on its property to reduce electric costs and to model alternative forms of energy sources on the island, Sr. Pat said.
