Diabetes Workshop Set for Sept. 22

HNP Communications Around the Province

NEW YORK — Holy Name Province’s Wellness Committee is planning a workshop to offer information for friars who are diabetic and pre-diabetic. It will be held Sept. 22 in San Damiano Hall at 129 West 31st Street.

“I would encourage friars dealing with diabetic conditions to mark this date on their calendars,” said Provincial Minister John O’Connor, OFM, who serves as the liaison between the HNP Wellness Committee and the Provincial Council.

For several years, the Province has been providing friars with variety of health information. Members of the HNP Wellness Committee have used CDs, articles in the Provincial newsletter — on topics such as heart disease, exercise, nutrition and depression — as well as live events to communicate information.

Most of the programs have been based on findings from a Province-wide health survey conducted several years ago. In 2009, HNP offered a workshop for friars called “The Well-Fed Friar: Maintaining Taste and Health.”

The chair of the HNP Wellness Committee is physician Matthew Pravetz, OFM, an associate professor at New York Medical College in Valhalla, N.Y.

Registration forms for the Sept. 22 workshop will be sent to all Province friaries.
