The Province is mourning the passing of two friars and several Franciscan sisters.
Two members of the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany, N.Y., died this month. Sr. Maureen Dorr, OSF, 85, died on Oct. 1 and Sr. Margaret Taney, OSF, 87, died on Oct. 4.
Br. Roger Petras, OFM, of the Custody of the Holy Land and the Franciscan Monastery of the Holy Land in Washington, D.C., died Oct. 5. The wake and funeral were held at the Franciscan Monastery.
Four members of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia died this month. Sr. Anne McMahon, OSF, 98, died Oct. 4, Sr. Janice Miriam Bahl, OSF, 78, died Oct. 7, and Sr. Francis Carmel Gonzon, OSF, 71, on Oct. 14, and Sr. Mary Matthew Cola, OSF, 88, died on Oct. 26. Announcements about their deaths were posted on the Sisters’ Facebook page.
Fr. Charles Brozat, SA, 88, a Franciscan Friar of the Atonement, died at Holy Name Friary in Ringwood, N.J., on Oct. 13. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in Pacific Theater operations and ministered in Japan until his retirement.
Sr. Mary Alfred Beattie, OSC, a Poor Clare from the Langhorne, Pa., Monastery, died on Oct. 17.
