The Province is mourning the passing of several friars – one a leader of the Order – and two sisters.

Fr. Sebastian Meceslaus Kus, OFM, 83, a member of Assumption BVM Province, died on Sept. 21 in Green Bay, Wis.

Fr. William Reichel, OFM, 83, of St. John the Baptist Province, died Sept. 29 in Cincinnati.

Two members of the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany, N.Y., died this month – Sr. Jeannette Burke, OSF, age 97, on Oct. 2, and Sr. Noella Lachat, OSF, age 82, on Oct. 7.

Fr. John Vaughn, OFM, 88, of St Barbara Province, died on Oct. 10 in Santa Barbara, Calif. He served as General Minister of the Order of Friars Minor from 1979 to 1991. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 21. at Old Mission Santa Barbara in Santa Barbara, Calif.
