Franciscan deathsHoly Name Province is mourning the recent passing of friars from four provinces in the U.S. as well as two Franciscan sisters.

Two members of St. Barbara Province have died in recent weeks – Fr. Efrem Trettel, OFM, 96, died on Jan. 20 in Oakland, Calif., and Fr. Gavin (Robert) Griffith, OFM, 79, died on March 11 in San Francisco.

Sr. Genevieve Mary Jurick, OSF, 95, of the School Sisters of St. Francis, died Feb. 26 in Pittsburgh.

Br. Claver Boerner, OFM, 79, of Sacred Heart Province, died March 3 in Manitowoc, Wis.

Two members of Our Lady of Guadalupe Province have died – Fr. Wayne Gibbeaut, OFM, 72, died March 15 in Huntington, W.V., and Fr. Ulric Pax, OFM, on March 26 at San Juan Diego Friary in Albuquerque, N.M.

Sr. Mary Clare McMaster, OSF, 98, a Franciscan Sister of Allegany, N.Y., died on March 17 at St. Elizabeth Motherhouse.

Fr. Simeon Cleves, OFM, 88, of St. John the Baptist Province, died March 24 in Cincinnati.
