Deaths in Franciscan Communities

The friars of the Province are mourning the recent passing of three Franciscan sisters and three friars.

Two members of the Franciscans Sisters of Allegany, N.Y., died this spring — Sr. Julieta Maria de Carvalho, OSF, 59, in Brazil on March 4 and Sr. Cecile Ho Oh, OSF, 98, in Jamaica, on April 30.

Sr. Margaret Mary O’Reilly, OSF, 90, a member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia, died in Assisi House in Aston, Pa., on June 7. She had been a professed Franciscan sister for 72 years. Sr. Margaret was born in County Leix, Ireland.

Three members of St. Barbara Province have died. Br. Samuel Cabot, OFM, 83, died on May 19 at Serra Retreat in Malibu, Calif.; Fr. Eugene Burnett, OFM, 93, died on May 25 at Mercy Center in Oakland, Calif.; and Br. Roy Rivas-Nuno, OFM, 85, died May 27 in Los Banos, Calif.
