Franciscan deaths

Holy Name Province is mourning the recent passing of three friars and three Franciscan sisters.

Bishop Sylvester Magro, OFM, of Malta, 76, died on Jan. 20 at Mater Dei Hospital, Msida, Malta. He was a professed Franciscan friar for 59 years, a priest for 51 years, and a bishop for 20 years.

Two members of Assumption BVM Province have died: Br. Theodore Tokarz, OFM, 80, on Dec. 23 and Fr. Thomas Kamenski, OFM, 87, on Jan. 13.

Two members of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia have died: Sr. Mary Teresa Carmichael, OSF, 93, on Dec. 28 and Sr. Rita Marie Burian, OSF, 83, on Jan. 8. Both died at Assisi House in Aston, Pa.

Sr. Celestine Fruscione, OSF, a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany, N.Y., died Jan. 18 in Anapolis, Brazil.
