Deaths in Franciscan Communities

During recent weeks, several Franciscans have passed to eternal life.

Fr. Gary Bernhardt, OFM, 56, of Sacred Heart Province died Aug. 26, in St. Louis. He was director of Franciscan Charities and of his province’s development office, according to the obituary in the Sept. 2 issue of Around the Province.

Fr. John Robert Scarangello, OFM, 59, of Immaculate Conception Province, died on Aug. 30, in Onset, Mass. Fr. John was a professed Franciscan friar for 37 years and a priest for 33 years, serving most recently as a member of IC Province’s definitorium, guardian of the Provincial Curia and secretary to the Provincial Minister.

Sr. Mary Philippa, OSC, from the Poor Clare Monastery in Wappinger Falls, N.Y., died Sept. 12.
