Franciscan deaths

Holy Name Province is mourning the recent passing of four friars from the Order’s English-speaking Conference and three Franciscan sisters.

Two members of the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany, N.Y., have died: Sr. Ellen Michael Schafer, OSF, 93, on April 5 and Sr. Teresa Marie Sweeney, OSF, 86, on May 11.

Fr. Bronislaus Jaskulski, OFM, 97, a member of Assumption BVM Province, died on April 23 in Wisconsin. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on May 3 in Pulaski, Wis.

Sr. M. Antonia Maguire, FMSC, 86, a member of the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart, headquartered in Peekskill, N.Y., died on April 25. A Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated on April 28.

Two members of the Province of Ireland have died – Fr. Paschal Slevin, OFM, 83, on May 1 in Killiney, Ireland, and Br. Emmanuel Musara, OFM, 52, on May 2, in Zimbabwe, Africa.

Fr. Roch Ciandella, OFM, 74, a member of the Immaculate Conception Province and director of retreats at Mount Alvernia Retreat Center, Wappingers Falls, N.Y., died on May 11, in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on May 15 at Mount Alvernia Retreat Center Chapel.
