WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. — The friars of Holy Name Province are invited to an interprovincial day of prayerful sharing on June 27 at Mount Alvernia Retreat Center near the Hudson River.

The program is being planned by Russel Murray, OFM, of Siena College, and Fr. Andre Cirino, OFM, of Immaculate Conception Province, as a way to focus on the contemplative dimension of the Order of Friars Minor, an aspect of Franciscan life that is very important, said Russel. The program will include three speakers, all of whom are Poor Clares.

Because General Minister Fr. Jose Rodriguez Carballo, OFM, has expressed his interest in strengthening the contemplative base of the Order, Russel said he and Fr. Andre, who is a member of the Order’s Commission for Contemplation, decided to organize a joint initiative of Holy Name and Immaculate Conception Provinces that is focused on prayer and sharing.

Information about this day, called “To Sit Together,” can be obtained by Fr. Roch Ciandella, OFM, at 845-297-5706.

Provincial Vicar Dominic Monti, OFM, suggests that friars save the date of this event while detailed documents about its background and its objectives are prepared for distribution to HNP friars. Though no registration deadline has been set, friars are encouraged to contact the retreat center before June to reserve a place.

This is the second contemplative gathering being offered to Holy Name Province friars in June. The first is June 11 to 15 at Mt. Irenaeus in Western New York.
