Come to the Desert
2006 Interprovincial Directed Retreat
July 9-15, 2006
Albuquerque, New Mexico

This private directed retreat is jointly sponsored by the Assumption, Guadalupe, Sacred Heart and John the Baptist Provinces. Friars from any OFM provinces are invited to attend. This retreat is limited to 10 friars.

Each friar will meet privately with his director once daily for about an hour. Morning prayer, evening prayer and Eucharist are celebrated in common. Meals are in silence. The rest of the day is dedicated to quiet and solitude.

The cost of the retreat is $395.

The retreat director is Joachim (“Kim”) Studwell, OFM. He is from the Assumption Province, and has worked extensively in retreat ministry, spiritual direction, parish ministry, Hispanic ministry and charismatic renewal. He is presently director of vocations for his province. He lives at their provincial headquarters in Franklin, Wisc.

If the number of participants exceeds five, a second retreat director will attend. He is Barnabas Diekemper, OFM, of the Sacred Heart Province. He is currently chaplain at the Franciscan Sisters in Springfield, Ill.

Santa Maria de la Vid Norbertine Priory overlooks the city of Albuquerque and the Sandia/Manzano Mountains. It offers an experience of being away and removed from distractions while being conveniently close to the city. Glorious sunrises and sunsets, as well as tranquil starry nights, are a constant gift. With an elevation of 5,000 feet, you can expect warm, sunny days and cool evenings.

There are four hermitage apartments with private baths, desk and chair, singe bed, kitchenette and small private courtyard. The six private bedrooms are in a guest house which contains 2 1/2 baths, full kitchen, laundry; living, meeting and dining rooms; and a large outdoor private covered patio.
