Pilgrimage of the San Damiano Crucifix

The Crucifix which spoke to St. Francis is now making its way through Italy. This pilgrimage initiated from the chapel of San Damiano in Assisi on September 24, 2005, following a celebration presided over by the General Minster General, Br. José Rodriguez Carballo.

Sacred Heart’s Hispanic Focus Group Issues Statement

The friars of Sacred Heart Province involved in Hispanic ministry completed their annual spring meeting on March 9 at St. John Friary in Joliet, Ill. They spent some time talking about the need for immigration reform and drafted this concluding statement.

The Conventual Friars announced the release of a short documentary film from three-time Emmy Award winning filmmaker Mary K. Fields Korfhage. The Franciscan Shelter House is an outreach program located in the Smoketown neighborhood of Louisville.

Visit to the Province of Vietnam

The General Minister, José Rodríguez Carballo, OFM, visited the Province of St. Francis in Vietnam Feb. 23-28. It is the first time that a General Minister of the Order officially visited the Province, thanks to a special visa given by the government of Vietnam.

New Orleans Parish to Reopen

St. Mary of the Angels Church in New Orleans, staffed by the friars of St. John Baptist Province, will reopen under the care of the friars but its school will not, according to a "Pastoral Plan for the Next Stage of Recovery" announced Feb. 9 by Archbishop Alfred Hughes of New Orleans.

Pope Appoints Pontifical Legate

On Feb. 21, the Pope appointed Cardinal Attilio Nicora, president of the Administration of the Patrimony of the Apostolic See, as Pontifical Legate for the Basilicas of St. Francis and of St. Mary of the Angels in Assisi.
