BUTLER, N.J. — The 125th anniversary celebration of St. Anthony School was held here on Nov. 18 with more than 300 alumni attending the dinner dance.
Sister Regina, a 98-year-old Franciscan sister from Peekskill, N.Y., who taught in the school from 1933 until 1949, said she enjoyed visiting with many of her former students. Her memory was incredibly sharp, and she remembered each of her former students who were in attendance.
A few of the other sisters who taught at St. Anthony also returned for the celebration; they were Sisters Elaine, Alice Francis, Beatrice, Cosmos, and Eileen. Also returning for the night was Eileen Papa who was our first lay principal. Frank Petruccelli, superintendent of the Catholic School System in the Paterson diocese, also attended.
It was a wonderful evening, filled with renewing acquaintances, reminiscing, taking tours of the school, and enjoying the banquet and dancing. Many participants shared how the education they received at St. Anthony’s prepared them for later life and success.
